Flame lamination is the process of laminating flexible materials with an open flame. This technique is used to seal materials such as fabrics to foam (usually polyurethane foam) or other expanded nonwoven polyester. The substrate is first exposed to flame to heat to form the bond surface, and then a second material is introduced into the surface to secure the bond. This reduces costs as the heated material becomes "tacky" to create a natural (chemical free) adhesive.
